After skimming through the headline stories of the last few days, I’m reminded of the chorus from 1960’s hit “It’s My Party” by Leslie Gore. Change the lyrics a bit and you have the perfect theme song for the whining and moaning of Democrats who are being shouted down in their own town hall events.
The Democrats in Congress and Obama administration officials have joined forces using town hall formats to tour the country and “sell” the American public on their awful health care reform effort. What they hadn’t counted on was the reaction of the American people to this abomination and now they are reduced to huddling in dark corners, crying and cowering in fear as the “unruly mobs” all but pelt them with rotten tomatoes.
These so called unruly mobs are the citizens who are educated enough and bold enough to question the statist agenda… and the statists rightfully fear them.
The American people are laying siege to the various town hall meetings and successfully browbeating Democrats into stunned silence. Videos of their efforts have gone viral on Youtube and now many of these otherwise courageous Democrats have become like petulant children who refuse to come out and play. Those who still plan to hold town halls do so with a “deer in the headlights” look on their faces, terrified of facing their own constituents…terrified of being exposed for the fools they are.
Obama administration officials are no exception to this as Kathleen Sebelius quickly learned at her recent town hall meeting with opportunicrat “Benedict” Arlen Specter, when constituents in the audience verbally tarred and feathered them. Notably, a lady in the audience made the following statement which was greeted with thunderous applause:
“I look at this health care plan and I see nothing that is about health or about care. What I see is a bureaucratic nightmare, senator. Medicaid is broke, Medicare is broke, Social Security is broke and you want us to believe that a government that can’t even run a cash for clunkers program is going to run one-seventh of our U.S. economy? No sir, no.”
She nailed it. The facts could not be more clear or concisely put. The government’s track record is a rush hour train wreck with every rail car involved and every track blocked.
This particular event and past events such as the recent town hall conducted by Tim Bishop – who essentially threatened to take his ball and go home while complaining to Politico – are only a couple of examples. Clearly this is no isolated phenomenon. Protesters and concerned citizens alike are mounting resistance across the country in an effort to compel their representatives to vote against the nationalization of our health care. And, predictably, the Democrats who aren’t running for the hills are sweating bullets and biting their fingernails to the quick.
In Austin, Texas, Rep. Lloyd Doggett was drowned out by a group of noisy, sign-waving demonstrators who shouted, “Just say no” as he tried to talk about health care reform.
In Morrisville, Pa., Rep. Patrick Murphy was forced to scrap plans for a one-on-one meet-the-congressman session when people in the crowd started shouting. Murphy switched to a town hall format mid-event and even then had to ask the audience at times to “be respectful.”
I must admit that there is no shortage of schadenfreude on my part. I am heartily enjoying the pleasure of watching the statists squirm trying to defend what they know is a horrific and ill-willed plan. The only thing more entertaining is watching them try to regain the offensive by name-calling and demonizing the protesters.
What’s more is that they simply refuse to see the writing on the wall. We’re not going away! We’re right, they’re wrong – it’s just that simple. Yet the statists continue to push their agenda, willfully dismissing reasoned and factual objections without regard for the desire of their constituents.
We DO NOT want their health care. It should be perfectly evident by the sheer volume and frequency of town hall protests and the dissent of the audiences… and yet these so called “representatives” continue to press forward? The Democrats even admit that their plans are unpopular. Why then continue forward with those plans? Why carry them out if your constituents so vociferously condemn the policy? It defies logic… unless the goal is NOT a matter of representing the people, but controlling them.
The American public is catching on to this fact. Let the Democrats, administration officials and RINOs alike be warned… if this atrociously un-American legislation is passed, your pink slips will be in the ballot box.
Meanwhile, I’ll savor bitter-sweet schadenfreude as Democrats and Obama officials alike cower in the face of the wrath of John Q. Public.
It’s my town hall and I’ll cry if I want to/Cry if I want to/Cry if I want to/You would cry too if it happened to you!
